Enrolled Agents are enrolled with the IRS to represent taxpayers before Internal Revenue Service for audit and other tax matters.
To become an Enrolled Agent you must clear a thorough background investigation and pass a very difficult two-day written examination covering ALL aspects of taxation, including IRS procedures and Ethics. Traditionally, fewer than one-third of all applicants pass the examination. Because of the difficulty in becoming Enrolled Agents, there are fewer than 35,000 enrolled agents in the U.S.
